Awarded Students Designed Online Caring Cards to Show Care to the Sichuan Children
Hong Kong，June 30, 2008 – The Sichuan earthquake had happened more than a month ago. With the co-ordination of Education Bureau, Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Ltd (HKIRC) had invited winning schools of the 21st Century Competence for Youth (21CCY) competition* to call upon students to use computer drawing software to design online caring cards to show care and support to the victimized children.
Jonathan Shea, CEO of HKIRC said, ”The devastating earthquake had traumatized the heart of every Chinese, and inevitably affected the emotions of these quake-hit children in the long run. Psychology rebuilding is essential to help them adapt to the normal daily life. Therefore we’ll need to unite caring forces from various parties to show continued support to them.”
Special thanks will be given to the participating schools which have contributed to more than 20 caring cards for posting online. Participating schools include: Po Leung Kuk Castar Primary School, Shak Chung Shan Memorial Catholic Primary School and Tai Po Old Market Public School.
From now until July 18, 2008, public may view the caring cards online at www.QuickRelief.hk and cast a vote to the card that best represent their caring spirit to the Sichuan children.
“We are delighted to see that students are able to express a “never give up” and optimistic attitude to life through online drawings. We hope that more people can participate in the online voting by selecting their favorite caring card. HKIRC will be donating HK$0.5 for every visit to these cards in order to accumulate donation amounts to show continued support to Sichuan quake victims.”
HKIRC will donate the accumulated amounts to charities such as Hong Kong Red Cross, Unicef and the Salvation Army. The card with the maximum number of hits may get sponsorship to be printed out and presented as a gift to the victimized children via related charities.
In order to encourage the public to leverage on the convenience of the web, HKIRC had established an online donation platform for people who wish to make donations anytime and anywhere. All collected funds will be donated to designated charities.
