HKIRC Supports CMA Short Film Ad Competition for Secondary School Students Sponsors .hk Domains for Official Website and all Participants

HONG KONG, November 9, 2009 – Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited (HKIRC) is honoured to support the “The 44th Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo –‘Quality Brands, Quality Life’ Secondary School Short Film Ad Competition” as the exclusive IT Sponsor, providing a free domain for the official website as well as ‘‘.hk’ domains to participants.

The competition is jointly organised by The Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong (CMA), The Youth Committee of The Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong (CMAYC) and Sing Tao Magazine Group. The event aims at promoting students’ creativity via video ad production. Participants will develop and produce video ads with reference to the market position, features, and development strategy of a certain local brand. Computer animation, images, and real actors can be employed in the production. The participants will be assigned a brand name by a random draw. They are also encouraged to build a unique Hong Kong identity for the brands with the sponsorship of free ‘’/ ‘.hk’ for one year.

HKIRC partnered with IT service provider Speedy Group to provide a one-stop web solution, which includes an interactive and customized interface for students to submit their ads online for public appreciation and voting. The ad with the highest number of votes will be awarded the “Favourite ‘.hk’ Video Ad” prize during the annual Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo held in early December.

“With the popularity of online communities, social networking sites, Internet on mobile and wireless Internet connection, the Internet has already become a part of our daily lives. HKIRC fully supports activities that promote proper Internet behaviours. Through the sponsorship of ‘.hk’ domains for this interesting and interactive platform, we hope to foster the culture of information sharing and collective creativity on the Net,” said Mr Jonathan Shea, CEO of HKIRC.

HKIRC has sponsored free’.hk’ domains to more than 70 teams from 30 secondary schools in Hong Kong, expecting over 100 domains to be given away to participants. Students are encouraged to apply the domains for their websites, blogs or emails, which help to sharpen a unique Hong Kong online identity, and further promote the growth of the ‘.hk’ community.

We also encourage students to come up with a creative and easy-to-remember ‘.hk’ domain name, a unique Hong Kong identity which will facilitate them to build a personal website for social networking activities.” said Principal Tang Yin Ping of Yan Ping Industrial & Commercial Association Lee Lim Ming College.
