'2008 Digital Marketplace - The Winning Edge' Seminar
HONG KONG, January 25, 2008
– Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited (HKIRC) and its wholly owned subsidiary Hong Kong Domain Name Registration Company Limited (HKDNR) today hosted the “2008 Digital Marketplace – The Winning Edge” seminar. The seminar was well attended by industry practitioners, corporate and institutional executives, with IT experts sharing their views and exchanging ideas. Both speakers and participants gained valuable insights into the industry.
HKDNR has always been keen to foster the Internet community in Hong Kong, and advocates the development of e-commerce in Hong Kong. The seminar provided an interactive platform for practitioners from the IT industry to exchange their views and share their visions for the digital market, and to analyze potential business opportunities and challenges. Participants acquired first-hand market intelligence, helping them to seize business opportunities, prepare for challenges and expand potential markets.
The Seminar, hosted by Mr. Joseph Leung, Director of HKIRC, and Mr. Jonathan Shea, Chief Executive Officer of HKDNR, showcased industry-leading speakers. These included Mr. Alfred Ng, Assistant Government Chief Information Officer of the HKSARG; Mr. Charles Mok, Chairman of the Internet Society Hong Kong (ISOC-HK); Mr. John Chiu, Chairman of the Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association (HKWTIA); Ms. Queenie Chung, General Manager of UDomain Web Hosting, and Mr. Joseph Chan, Chief Executive Officer of AsiaPay (HK) Limited.
During the seminar, the guest speakers presented their perspectives on prominent issues, including:
- How the GovWiFi Programme serves the public and the business community of Hong Kong
- Development of wireless technology and a market overview
- The prevailing trends of Web 2.0 in Hong Kong and their impact on the Hong Kong public and local business
- Promotion strategies for the digital market via search engine optimization
- Business opportunities for e-payment and Internet security solutions for online transactions
“Participants have obtained more comprehensive knowledge about the digital market through speaking sessions and panel discussions at the seminar. In the future, the Internet and the possession of a representative ‘.hk’ domain name will become increasingly important to individuals and businesses. We should equip ourselves for this digital era as we are seeing an escalating volume of e-business and online transactions taking place around us,” said Mr. Jonathan Shea, Chief Executive Officer of HKDNR.
“It was my great pleasure to have participated in the seminar to share the latest developments in wireless technology with industry practitioners. As the popularity of mobile Internet services rises, wireless devices are becoming a daily commodity. In the mobile communications era, anyone is able to go online, anywhere and anytime. The industry should proactively tap into these opportunities for business expansion,” said Mr. John Chiu, Chairman of HKWTIA.
Mr. Charles Mok, Chairman of ISOC-HK, said, “The Internet community in Hong Kong is very mature with a high penetration rate. Internet services such as e-mail, online communities and instant messaging are crucial to our communications today. The Web 2.0 platform not only connects individuals, but also facilitates enterprises in communicating with global customers and suppliers without boundaries. We should leverage on the convenience and benefits brought by Web 2.0 and also the emerging Web 3.0 era.”
Mr. Joseph Leung, Director of HKIRC, said, “We would like to extend our gratitude to our honorable guest speakers who shared their valuable experience and insight with participants at the seminar. We will continue to promote the ‘.hk’ domain name through a range of activities and foster the development of the Internet in Hong Kong.”
Wrapping up the event was the Service Partner Award Ceremony 2007 organized by HKDNR to recognize the contributions made to the Internet community by local and overseas partners. Commemorative certificates were also presented to the current Panel Advisor of HKIRC, and to those of the previous year, as a token of thanks for their dedication to the corporation and its ideals.
