Launch of 'love4.hk' Free Domain Name Registration Program by Hong Kong Domain Name Registration Company Limited

- Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited (HKIRC) and Hong Kong Domain Name Registration Company Limited (HKDNR) launches the ‘love4.hk’ Program to support firms and charitable organizations participating in setting up or running Social Enterprises. By building up a cohesion to care for the community through the Internet, together we will move towards a harmonious society in Hong Kong.
Starting from December 20, 2007, eligible charitable organizations and their subsidiaries, and Social Enterprises can register a Chinese or English ‘.hk.’ or ‘.org.hk’ or ‘.組織.hk’ domain name with first 2-year fee waived.
Mr. Jonathan Shea, Chief Executive Officer of HKDNR, said, ‘being a corporation with strong sense of social responsibility, HKDNR has always participated in social and community events. Recent achievements include the popular “We Care We Share” Program with which charitable organizations enjoy free “.hk” registration and receiving award of “Caring Organization” for three consecutive years. As an advocate of Social Enterprises and Summit of Social Enterprise in the Policy Address 2007 – 2008, we are extending our free ‘.hk’ domain name registration to Social Enterprises so that they can utilize the prevailing advantages and effectiveness of Internet in promoting their businesses with minimal cost but fruitful return.’
Mr. Chua Hoi Wai, Business Director (Policy Research and Advocacy) of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS), said, ‘ we welcome HKDNR’s launch of “love4.hk’ Program. The free 2-year registration offer helps Social Enterprises and charitable organizations to establish their online identities and broaden their communications scope, ultimately building up the cyber charity culture of Hong Kong.’
Social Enterprises and charitable organizations targeting at local community benefit from websites with ‘.hk’ domain names. Communication will be reinforced in an interactive way while involvement from various social sectors will be strengthened. Through the application of ‘.hk’ domain name and Internet, social capital of Social Enterprises is expected to be enlarged, encouraging the participation and interaction of the society.
Home Affairs Bureau commits to promote social enterprises and foster new caring culture with everyone in the society. Its policy of assisting disadvantaged groups shares the same goal of HKDNR. Internet is an essential component in our daily lives and HKDNR believes social enterprises will be able to develop and achieve their aims with the use of ‘.hk’ and the Internet.
HKDNR will participate in the Summit on Social Enterprise held by Home Affair Bureau at the Hong Kong International Trade and Exhibition Centre, where application forms of ‘love4.hk’ Program will be distributed. Interested charitable organizations and social enterprises can visit HKDNR’s website http://www.hkdnr.hk to download the application forms and get more details after the Summit.
