HONG KONG, 18 February 2014 –– Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited (HKIRC) announced the commencement of public voting for the “Top 10 .hk Website Competition 2013” (the Competition) from now until 6th March 2014 . The shortlisted websites are now posted on the Competition’s website and voters will have a chance to win an iPad Air!
‘”The fifth Top 10 .hk Website Competition has received a record number of more than 400 entries this year, representing a 25 percent increase compared to last year. It attracted entries from both the commercial sector and non-commercial sectors across diverse industries in Hong Kong. We are delighted that the Competition is being highly recognised by the community at large, seeing the value of best practice for website development, which leads to a lift in the standards of entries this year. We hope the public will actively vote for their favourite .hk websites, contributing to the selection of the winning websites,” said Mr Jonathan Shea, CEO of HKIRC.
Ten websites were shortlisted in each of the “commercial” and “government departments” categories, while nine websites were selected in “non-commercial” category for public voting. To celebrate its fifth anniversary this year, HKIRC also added two elements to the Competition, including “The Most Honorable Award” for those who have won the gold prize for three consecutive years, as well as adding internet security as a factor to consider in the screening process.
A judging panel will assess the entries based on four criteria: overall website design and functionality, user engagement, use of social media and accessibility. Public voting will account for 10% of the overall score. The Awards Presentation Ceremony for the Competition will be held in April 2014.
From today, members of the public can visit http://www.top10award.hk to browse the shortlisted .hk/.香港 websites and cast their votes. Voters can select up to three websites from each of the three categories. Hong Kong citizens aged 18 years or above are eligible to vote once only. Voters will automatically be entered into a lucky draw and have the chance to win an iPad Air. Results of the lucky draw will be announced on 17 April 2014 on the Competition’s website.
