HONG KONG, 5th May 2003 - Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited (“HKIRC”) is pleased to announce that its first Annual General Meeting and Election of the HKIRC Board of Directors for Year 2003 was successfully held on 2nd May 2003.

In these six classes, the candidates of Commercial and Industry Class, Tertiary Institution Class and Government Class have been automatically elected while there were 20 candidates standing for election to the rest of the three different classes this year. Votes were received either by post in advance or in person during the AGM 2003. The whole election process was conducted in an open manner with the monitor of the Election Committee which members include ITSD representatives and Directors on the previous Board (with no interest in the voting).

Mr. Joseph Yu, the director representing Commerce and Industry Class, has been elected as the Chairman of HKIRC for the 2nd consecutive year. The new Board of Directors will continue to assist HKIRC, and its subsidiary, Hong Kong Domain Name Registration Company Limited (“HKDNR”), to provide better services to meet the needs and expectations of various sectors in the community, as well as to purse with the Company's primary goal to be a “public” organization for continuous contributions to Hong Kong's e-business development and the global Internet community.


Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited (“HKIRC”) was established as a non-profit-making and non-statutory organization to oversee the administration and assignment of the country-code top level domain (ccTLD), “.hk”, for Hong Kong. In addition, HKIRC represents Hong Kong in international Internet forums and plays a key role in facilitating Hong Kong's e-business development.
