Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme 2022-2023 Awards Presentation Ceremony
The award presentation ceremony of the Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme 2022-2023 held on 24 April at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This year HKIRC was keen on promoting web accessibility to more sectors in the society, and successfully attracted 19.6 percent more applicants compared to last year. More media organisations entered into the scheme, and the financial sector has seen a 131 percent increase of participation, which is a great encouragement.
To cope with the ageing population in Hong Kong, HKIRC is looking to expand the scheme to care for the senior group as the next step. With Internet becoming an indispensable component of modern daily life, even the elderly hope to use electronic services and take part in online activities easily through their computers or mobile devices. However, vision and hearing impairments become the greatest challenges when they surf the net. Therefore, we strive to cater for their needs in the next Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme. We look forward to further closing the digital divide and giving the senior group a smooth and perfect Internet experience, empowering them to live a convenient and fun-filled life in the digital spaces.
Free “Healthy Web” Service Actively Detects and Resolves Potential Network Risks
In the age of the internet, websites have become an important channel for business activities. However, with the increasing number of network attacks and frauds, website security has become a major concern. Most websites ignore their own network security and use default website designs and settings, giving network attackers an opportunity to exploit vulnerabilities.
HKIRC has always been committed to promoting the importance of network security. In order to further protect “.hk” domain name users, including non-profit organizations using “.org.hk” domain names, and their interests and domain name security, HKIRC has actively developed a new website security detection service – the “Web Health Check” service. This service actively checks the security status of websites and provides a brief report explaining the problems found and suggesting repair methods to help website owners discover and fix vulnerabilities and security issues in a timely manner.
In contrast, the current free website security scanning services require users to actively submit applications for website testing. However, relying on user applications for testing poses some risks because users may not be aware of potential risks or delay checking, allowing hackers to exploit vulnerabilities. Therefore, HKIRC has decided to invest more resources in providing another more proactive service to help users stay away from potential risks.
If you are interested in the “Web Health Check” service, simply fill out the relevant information on the following link and a specialist will follow up (https://forms.office.com/r/TEPh4i67Hz) For more information, please email cybsec@hkirc.hk.

At the same time, HKIRC hopes to establish a more profound brand image and deepen its brand positioning through a series of stylistic promotional materials.
