HKIRC actively promotes digital accessibility and calls on society to pay attention to the digital living of the elderly

According to figures from the Census and Statistics Department, the elderly population in Hong Kong is increasing day by day, which means that the usage habits of the elderly must be considered more carefully at different levels of life to meet the needs of social development. With the promotion of the government and industry, Hong Kong is developing into a smart city, and citizens’ lives are inseparable from the Internet and mobile applications. However, the elderly population and people with different needs in society will inevitably encounter difficulties when using these technologies.

HKIRC has been committed to promoting digital inclusion and through the “Digital Accessibility Recognition Scheme”, it encourages companies and organisations to improve the design of their web pages and applications to meet the needs of people with different needs. Recently, we have conducted an in-depth study on the situations and difficulties that the elderly face when using apps in their daily lives. We hope to arouse social attention through more public education, thereby promoting the optimisation of web pages and apps, so that the general public can share the fruits of technology and achieve a digitally integrated life.
