Cybersec Infohub Officially Launched to Strengthen Defense Against Cyber Attacks

Hong Kong, 29 September 2020 – The Cybersec Infohub Launching Ceremony cum Members Professional Workshop was held today (September 29), marking the collaboration between the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) and the Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited (HKIRC) in running the formalised Partnership Programme for Cyber Security Information Sharing (the Programme), which is also known as the Cybersec Infohub. The OGCIO and the HKIRC will encourage members to share cyber security information, advices and insights with cyber security experts from different sectors via the cyber security information sharing and collaborative platform (Cybersechub.hk) under the Programme.  Through sharing of the latest intelligence, members will get timely alert and be prepared to defend against cyber attack effectively.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, the Government Chief Information Officer, Mr Victor Lam, thanked members for their active participation during the two-year pilot period and their concerted efforts which made the cross‑sector platform a trusted collaborative network. He said that the achievements of the pilot Programme is an important milestone in Hong Kong’s commitment to safeguard cyber security.

“The formalised Programme will bring Hong Kong’s cyber security to a new level.  The OGCIO will join hands with the HKIRC to push forward the Programme with a view to encouraging more organisations, including small and medium enterprises (SMEs), to join and collaborate. A cyber security supporting alliance named Cybersec Connect was just set up under the Programme with the effort of the HKIRC. The Cybersec Connect will answer cyber security related enquiries from members, especially SMEs, and offer appropriate support,” said Mr Lam.

The OGCIO and the HKIRC also strive to strengthen collaboration with different industries and trade associations and enlist their members in the Programme with particular effort in encouraging exchanges and sharing of information within key industries such as banking and healthcare. The Hong Kong Association of Banks is motivating the banking sector to leverage on the collaborative platform in sharing cyber security information. The HKIRC is also actively promoting the Programme to its “.hk” corporate members so as to enhance Hong Kong’s overall Internet security and capability in defending against cyber attacks.

At the workshop held after the launching ceremony today, cyber security experts were invited to enlighten members on the salience of information sharing. There was also a panel discussion in which speakers exchanged their views on how information sharing can strengthen protection and resilience of enterprises or organisations against cyber attacks.

The Partnership Programme for Cyber Security Information Sharing has been formalised since September 1.  Currently, there are some 950 registered representatives from over 280 organisation members across a wide range of sectors. More than 1 500 pieces of cyber security information were shared on the collaborative platform, with over 390 pieces released to the public so far.

At the Cybersec Infohub Launching Ceremony cum Members Professional Workshop today (September 29), the Government Chief Information Officer, Mr Victor Lam, calls on organisations from different sectors, including small and medium enterprises, to take part in the partnership programme and join hands in defending against cyber attacks.
