HKIRC Announces Best .hk Website Awards 2015 Results 

Recognising the achievements of outstanding websitesacross many industries  

HONG KONG, 21 April, 2016 – Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited (HKIRC) today announced the results of “Best .hk Website Awards 2015” (the Awards) at a Presentation Ceremony at Cyberport. As a coveted accolade, HKIRC has unveiled the winners of respective streams awarding for their success in building secured, user-friendly and outstanding websites. Ir. Allen Yeung, Government Chief Information Officer, was the officiating guest at this annual event.

“We are pleased that the Awards programme has achieved remarkable results, which is one of the renowned award programmes staged in the International IT Fest. The awardees have fully demonstrated superior performance in website development in both desktop and mobile versions, serving as excellent role models for local companies to learn from.”, said Mr. Simon Chan, Chairman of HKIRC.

This year’s Awards have attracted a total of 504 entries and among which 319 were from “Commercial”, 48 were from “Non-commercial”, 85 were from “Government Departments”, and 52 were from “LegCo Members” streams. The Panel of Judges evaluated all entries based on four key judging criteria namely: overall design and functionality, engagement, use of social media and web accessibility. Winners of respective streams strived to enlighten the panel about the competitive advantages of their websites in their industry, how their websites enable their companies or organizations to achieve service excellence, as well as the overall benefits to local online community, amongst others.

Mr. Tony Lee, General Manager, Information Technology Resource Centre Limited of The Hong Kong Council of Social Service, was one of the judges in both “Commercial” and “Non-Commercial” streams. Lee commented that the entries received this year demonstrated outstanding quality in terms of website design and security. For example, in the “Commercial” stream, The Dairy Farm Company, Limited (www.wellcome.com.hk) has done a good job to improve service quality and drive traffic to the website by providing functions such as online purchase and shop pick up. On the other hand, Hong Kong Guide Dogs Association (www.guidedogs.org.hk) in the “Non-Commercial” stream has done an excellent job by making use of the website to recruit volunteers and call for donations.

 

Having awarded the Gold Prize for three consecutive years, Hong Kong Observatory’s website, (www.hko.gov.hk), received “The Most Honorable Award” as well as “The Most Liked .hk Website” this year. The Dairy Farm Company, Limited (www.wellcome.com.hk) and The University of Hong Kong, (www.hku.hk) were also winners of “The Most Liked .hk Website”.

partments Stream commented, “The quality of the government websites are outstanding. Most of them have excellent contents, beautiful layouts and user-friendly functionality. Most importantly, almost all of the websites have passed through the initial security screening. Congratulations to the winners of this year’s award. I look forward to seeing more and more local companies and organisations to be inspired by the award winners and develop secured and user-friendly websites”.

 

The Hon Charles Peter Mok’s website (www.charlesmok.hk) was awarded the gold prize in the “LegCo Members” stream. Mr. John Chiu, JP, Honorary Chairman of Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association commented, “The e-Office of Charles Mok is a mobile-friendly website with accessibility design, which collects Charles’s works in the Legislative Council and his interactions with industry in IT sector. It is also a highly interactive platform where visitors can submit their message, subscribe to e-Bulletin and directly share content on social media. In additon, the silver prize winner Dr. Hon Fernando Cheung Chiu Hung’s website (www.cheungchiuhung.org.hk) went further by developing a mobile app to update the public his latest activities.”

 

Best .hk Website Awards 2015 Presentation Ceremony is one of the many exciting events arranged for International IT Fest 2016 organized by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (“OGCIO”) with the aim to converge international experts to foster knowledge exchanges in various ICT topics. As one of the key drivers in Hong Kong’s ICT industry, HKIRC will continue with its efforts to promote the effective use of .hk domain names.

The about two-week public voting period attracted more than 8,582 votes from 3,500 Internet users to cast votes for their Most Liked .hk Website Awards in the Commercial, Non-commercial and Government Departments Streams.
