HKIRC Announces the ‘Best .hk Website Awards 2015’
Recognising Not Just Website Achievements But Mobile Site Development Too
HONG KONG, 12 November 2015 – Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporate Limited (HKIRC) today announced the launch of the seventh ‘Best .hk Website Awards 2015’ (the Awards), which is now open for nomination and entry until 8 Jan 2016, noon time. This year, the Awards will include mobile friendliness as part of judging criteria, aiming to recognise winners for their best practice not just on website development but on outstanding design of mobile-friendly site to cope with the society’s growing demand for mobile usage.
“We hope that the recognition will allow different sectors of the local community to demonstrate superior performance in website development covering both desktop and mobile versions, continue growing business online and addressing different needs of mobile internet users.” CEO, Jonathan Shea of HKIRC stated.
According to a report on “Digital, Social and Mobile in 2015: We are Social’s Compendium of Global Digital Statistics”1, the number of Hong Kong netizens using laptops & desktops for browsing dropped by 10% as compared to last year’s figures. On the other hand, the report reveals a 45% increase in web browsing on mobile devices. In addition, Hong Kong is said to have the most active 3G & 4G connections, despite its population size.
Given the increasing popularity of mobile internet in Hong Kong, additional assessment on mobile version will be added to the existing four judging criteria namely overall design and functionality, engagement, use of social media and accessibility.
In parallel, the “Most Liked .hk Website” and “The Most Honorable Website” Awards, which were added in the last two years, will remain. In addition, the “Best New Website” Award will be added as a special mention to acknowledge new entrants for their outstanding efforts made since 2014.
Top winners will be applauded at the Awards presentation ceremony and the best practices will be shared in the community through various networking events and speaking opportunities. Apart from the cash prize of up to HK$12,000, the winners will also have the opportunity to publicise their achievements through HKIRC’s media activities.

#Winners of other relevant awards such as The Most Honorable Award, The Most Liked .hk Website Award, The Best New Website, The Best Nominator Award, etc. will receive trophies only. Number of awards in the aforesaid 4 streams will be announced in due course.
