Winning websites receive recognition with excellent design and creativity
HONG KONG, 20 April 2017 –– Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited (HKIRC) announced the winners of the “Best .hk Website Awards 2016” (the Awards) today. Websites www.lcsd.gov.hk of Leisure and Cultural Services Department and www.charlesmok.hk of Office of the Hon Charles MOK, Legislative Councillor (I.T.) garnered gold awards in the Government Department and LegCo Member categories respectively. Websites www.hku.hk of The University of Hong Kong and www.aidsconcerns.org.hk of AIDS Concern won gold awards in the non-commercial sector while www.ztore.hk of Ztore HK Limited and www.mtr.com.hk of the MTR Corporation received the gold awards in the commercial category.
Intent on fostering creativity and encouraging the use of good practices in website development, HKIRC has been organising the Awards for eight years to give due recognition to websites with excellent design and comprehensive features. Best .hk Website Awards Presentation Ceremony is one of the many exciting events arranged for International IT Fest 2017 organized by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (“OGCIO”) and the guest of honour this year was Ir. Allen Yeung, Government Chief Information Officer.
This year’s competition is intense with 476 entries from four categories of “Commercial”, “Non-commercial”, “Government Department” and “Legislative Council member”. The award winners were selected after a rigorous selection by a panel of judges comprising industry veterans and the academia.
“We were delighted to see continuous interest in the Awards with numerous entries in all four categories. We were particularly impressed with the outstanding quality of work from this year’s entries and the creativity exhibited in the design and development of the websites really scale new heights,” said Mr. Leo Lam, CEO of HKIRC.
“HKIRC will continue with our mission to relentlessly encourage innovation and participation in the wider internet community. The Awards winners’ websites bear testament to the growing maturity and the level of technological sophistication of Hong Kong as an internet hub,” added Mr. Lam.
Judging criteria for the web contest are stringent and entries are rated on overall website design and functionality, engagement, use of social media, and accessibility. As in past years, members of the public were encouraged to participate by voting for their favorite websites and they also get a chance to win a prize through a lucky draw. The response was phenomenal with more than 10,000 votes cast. The public vote accounted for 10% of the overall assessment. The lucky draw result was published on Sing Tao Daily and The Standard on 20 March 2017.
