Public Voting for “Best .hk Website Awards 2015” is Open!

HONG KONG, 22 January 2016 –– To promote public awareness in the competitive edge of a good website, Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited (HKIRC) announced the commencement of public voting for the “Best .hk Website Awards 2015” (the Awards) on 22nd January for a period up to 12th February, 2016 (12 noon). Hong Kong citizens not only have the chance to vote for their favourite .hk websites but also to win an Apple TV!
“The Awards helps set the benchmark of the best .hk websites for public recognition. Over the years, we have been seeing improvements in website design, functionality, user-friendliness, and security” said Mr Jonathan Shea, CEO of HKIRC, “We are glad that most websites have mobile version while a number of government websites have started using social media to publish latest information and engage the citizens.”
There are a total of 504 website entries this year including 319 entries from the “Commercial” stream and 48 entries from the “Non-commercial” stream.
Ten websites under the “Commercial” stream, 10 websites under the “Non-commercial” stream and 12 websites under the “Government Department” stream were shortlisted for public voting. The Awards is expected to honour nearly 30 websites over four streams (Gold, Silver and Bronze awards for each stream), as well as “The Most Honorable Award”, “The Most Liked .hk Website Award”, “The Best New Website”, and “The Best Nominator Award”.
After the public voting, the shortlisted websites will be evaluated by the judging panels on four criteria: overall website design and functionality, engagement, use of social media, and accessibility. Public voting results will account for 10% of the overall score, while 90% of the overall score will be determined by the judging panels. Winners will be announced in April 2016.
Starting from 22nd January till 12th February, 2016, Hong Kong citizens aged 18 years or above can visit www.bestwebsite.hk to vote for three of their favourite .hk websites in each stream. Voters will enter a lucky draw automatically, and will have the chance to win an Apple TV. Results of the lucky draw will be announced on 14 March 2016 on the Awards website, as well as Hong Kong Standard and Sing Tao Daily.
